Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society Alliance

Who We Are

The Alliance (SSVMSA) is the volunteer arm of the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society.  Membership is composed of spouses/domestic partners of physicians, physicians, physicians in training, medical students, and friends of medicine.

What We Do

The Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health in our community through education, community health project funding, medical student and nursing scholarships, as well as give volunteer support of community projects (all while having fun & making friends). With the state and national alliances we develop awareness, action and advocacy for quality health care legislation and actively participate in their projects.

These are some of the things we accomplished this past year:

    • Community Grants were awarded in the amount of $50,100, which has increased from $38,125 last year, for programs throughout greater Sacramento:  The Soldier’s Project, Mercer Veterinary Clinic for the Homeless, the Food Literacy Center, UC Davis Mini Medical School, Camp Kasem UC Davis, UCP Autism Center for Excellence, Loaves and Fishes, WEAVE, and CCHAT.
    • Nursing scholarships were awarded in the amount of $7,500 to five deserving nursing students from American River College, CSUS, Sacramento City College, and UC Davis.
    • Holiday Sharing Card raised $22,150 benefiting: SSVMSA's Community Endowment Fund ($13,700) and SSVMS’s William E. Dochterman Medical Student Scholarship Fund ($6,000 increased from $5,600).
    • The Art of Medicine (AOM) auction was a huge success. Thank you to all who supported the benefit!
    • Publication of the directory “Community Resources for Older Adults.”
    • Social Activities: Monthly “Lunch Bunch” luncheons and book club, Napa wine trip, AOM gift gathering parties, and playdates for children.
    • Alliance members enjoyed volunteering and giving back to the community at the WEAVE center and the Food Bank Distribution Center. We look forward to more Volunteer Days to come in the 2016/2017 calendar year!
    • In conjunction with the SSVMS, the Alliance members had a fun evening at the SSVMS Summer Social at the Aerospace Museum of California.
Membership in the Alliance allows you to be directly involved in our projects, activities and events; however, even if you do not have time to actively participate in our projects or can only participate occasionally, your dues are very important.

We are looking forward to another year of promoting health in our community and having you as a member.
